Ricky Carmichael @ Pontiac '97 Print
More than a print, this is an artistic representation of one of Ricky Carmichael's favorite photographs and story from his racing career.
Officially Licensed by Ricky Carmichael
In the spring of 1997, an unattributed 4x6-in. Kodak snapshot showed up in the marketing department at Oakley. The subject was one of their young riders, 17-year-old Ricky Carmichael, laying his motorcycle flat in the air.
Nobody knew who took the photo but Oakley loved it enough to use it in an ad campaign, including on a billboard along I-405 in LA.
For the rest of this incredibly quirky and fun tale, read/listen to “One Hit Wonder: The Story behind the most expensive photo in motocross history.”
The print sold here is inspired by the photo that David St. Onge took from the 17th row at the 1997 Pontiac Supercross.
Dimensions: 12-in. x 16-in.
